Design &
Technology is taught throughout the school in a
well-equipped multi-media workshop. Pupils will
be introduced to three different facets of
technology.
- Design/Communication
- Materials and
Processes
- Energy and
Control Design Communication
Each child will be
given the opportunity to express his/her ideas;
- Verbally and
in written form;
- Through
freehand drawing and by formal drawing
methods using traditional instruments;
- Modelling in
card;
- Using a
number of computer drawing packages.
Materials and
Processes Pupils will experience working
with a range of materials both natural and
man-made. They will learn to use the common hand
and machine tools for the materials used, (wood,
plastic, and metal)
Energy and
Control Pupils will be introduced to
different types and sources of energy,
electronic devices and computer control.
Throughout their time in this area pupils will
be encouraged to:
- Develop the
ability to communicate their ideas using a
variety of methods,
- Understand
the properties and suitability for purpose
of a range of common materials,
- Practise the
safe handling and proper use of a range of
common hand and machine tools,
- Develop a
safe attitude to working.
